TRIVIA

Meet Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. Everybody is sure that Somebody will do a job. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did. Everybody got angry because he thought that Somebody would do it. Nobody realized that Nobody would do it. Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Here's some interesting and fun facts & brain teasers:

Q1: 2 modern cities were completely built from scratch by 2 of the world's most famous architects. Which cities & which architects?

Q2: Belgian's most famous export products are not chocolates, waffles or beer. One is yellow, the other blue...

Q4: 50 states in the USA. 50 state capitals. How many state capitals are also the biggest city in that state?

Q5: What is the biggest living organism and where can you find it?

Q6: There is no Nobel prize for architecture. But what is the 'unofficial' Nobel prize for architecture? And do you know when this was established and do you know the winners?

Q7: Which sea does not have a coastline?

Q8: Where can you find a replica of the St. Peter's Cathedral (Vatican)?

Q9: Where does Borat wants to go to before he gets a ride from a motor home?

Q10: there are 3 doors, one door has your dreamhouse behind it. You pick out a door and a third person opens one of the remaining doors. What are the odds your dreamhouse is behind the door you originally picked out? 1/2 or 1/3?

Q11:there are 12 balls and one has a different weight. You have a balance that does not read weight, it only balances to the right or left. Can you tell which ball has the different weight by using the balance three times?

Q12:on one side of a 160 mile road, car A starts driving @ 40 MPH. 15 min later, on the other side, car B starts driving @ 60 MPH. In the middle, a road runner starts running to car A when car A starts driving. When reaching car A, he turns back and heads to car B, then back to car A, etc @ 500 MPH. Question: how many miles did the road runner run when car A and car B meet?

A1: Chandigarh in India was designed and built by Le Corbusier. Oscar Niemeyer designed and built Brasilia, capital of Brazil.

A2: the yellow and tasty 'French' fries are a 100% Belgian invention. I have never understood how the French got away with this. The Smurfs are small, blue, live in mushrooms and are designed by the Belgian artist Peyo. Tintin will only become famous when Steven Spielberg directs the long awaited Tintin movie.

A4: 17.  Massachusetts-Boston; Rhode Island-Providence; West Virginia-Charleston; Ohio-Columbus; Indiana-Indianapolis; South Carolina-Columbia; Georgia-Atlanta; Mississippi-Jackson; Arkansas-Little Rock; Oklahoma-Oklahoma City; Iowa-Des Moines; Colorado-Denver; Wyoming-Cheyenne; Idaho-Boise; Arizona-Phoenix; Utah-Salt Lake City; Hawaii-Honolulu.

A5: The biggest animal would be a whale. Then there are trees. But the biggest living organism is a mushroom! You can find the biggest so far known mushroom in Oregon. It's covering a whole mountain!

A6: the most prestigious and unofficial architecture Nobel prize is the Pritzker price and the first winner was Philip Johnson in 1979. Find out all about the Pritzker price, the winners, buildings and much more on the official website: www.pritzkerprize.com

A7: The oval shaped Sargasso Sea does not have a coastline. It is encircled by The Gulf Stream (West), North Atlantic current (North), Canadian current (East) and the North Atlantic Equatorial Current (South). The sea is about 690 by 2000 miles and 3 miles deep. The sea is covered by a kind of seaweed called sargassum. The Sargasso Sea is the unique breeding place for eels. Drawn by unknown forces, the snakelike fish come from Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States to mate, spawn and die. From there, their larvae make the long journey back to continental waters. The Sargasso Sea, the heart of the Bermuda triangle is known as the sea of lost ships & airplanes. Microbiologist Craig Venter – the Bill Gates of genetic research found 150 previously undiscovered microbes and 1.2 million undiscovered genes just by taking some water from the Sargasso sea and read it’s DNA.

A8: Not in Las Vegas (wonder what's holding them back). You would have to go to Yamoussoukro, capital of Ivory Coast and birthplace of Felix Houphouet Boigny. An interesting case when discussing development aid...

A9: He wants to go to Decatur, where else??? Great city to live, work, for entertainment and interesting for journalists to explore!

A10: the only correct answer is 1/3! Even though only two doors remain and the first impression would be the odds become 1/2, opening one of the two remaining doors gives extra information on the remaining closed door. Just like the donkey in shrek, the door is shouting: pick me. The best way to understand is look at this in extreme. Picture 1000 doors. You randomly pick out 1 door. Odds are 1/1000. Someone is opening 998 of the 999 remaining doors. Wouldn't you agree that the dreamhouse will be behind that one remaining door? 999 chances out of 1000.

A 11: 1/ put 4 balls to the Right and 4 balls to the Left. Assume the left side of the balance is up (same reasoning when right side is up). Now you know: one of the 4 balls on the left side is potentially lighter (L1 to L4), one of the 4 balls on the right side is potentially heavier (H1 to H4), and the 4 remaining balls have normal weight (N1 to N4). 2/put H1 H2 L1 L2 to the left and N1 N2 H3 L3 to the rigth. A: level: either L4 is lighter or H4 is heavier, put H4 to the left and a normal ball to the rigth; when level, L4 is the one; when the left side is down, H4 is the heavy ball. B left side is up: either L1 or L2 is lighter or H3 is heavier. put L1 and H3 to the left and two normal balls to the rigth. When level, L2 is the light ball; when left side is up, L1 is lighter; when right side is up, H3 is heavier. C right side is up: either H1 or H2 is heavier or L3 is lighter. Put H1 and L3 to the left and two normal balls to the right. When level, H2 is heavier; when left side is up, L3 is lighter; when right side up, H1 is heavier... Not that easy!

A12: there's a little trick to solve this problem. When trying to solve this by adding the miles when the road runner first runs to car A, then to car B, etc, one would have to consider alot of factors and it would be impossible to find the answer. The solution is easy though, but one has to think about it: all it takes is figuring out the total time the road runner runs. In this example, the total time is 105 minutes (car A drives 10 miles in 15 minutes; the remaining distance of 150 miles takes 90 minutes). 105 minutes @ 500 MPH means that the road runner run 875 miles.
